This is what home is. I was in town visiting family. I was spending the day with my niece who didn't remember a lot of things I associate with Chalmette, specifically, she didn't recall much about Rocky & Carlo's. I dragged her butt there where we split a roast beef po-boy and had some traditional mac'n'cheese with brown gravy. We also had two beverages and the total was 15.75! She was shocked because the roast beef "wasn't the cheap stuff, but the good kind" and the gravy was everywhere. Even on our faces after a few bites! I always say that, if it ain't sloppy, it ain't good. We could not finish the SMALL order of mac'n'cheese so she took it home and used it for her family the next night. All their drinks are bottled so they gave a Mardi Gras cup with ice. We asked if we could keep them and they were more than happy to oblige. She's now planning on driving all the way from Avondale with her husband to show him how wonderful Rocky's is and we'll always have that wonderful memory of lunch the old school way. :)
Simply the best!. A must when heading to Da Parish! Try the muffaletta or shrimp creole for a break from the usual veal parmesan with baked macaroni.
best baked macaroni. I have been there about four times in less then two months. The food is delicious and the best macaroni you can ever eat. The veal parmeasan is delicious along with the catifsh. Well to be honest, I hadn't tried anything there that i didnt' like. The prices are cheap and you get a lot of food. You can't eat all of it, you have to take the rest home!!! To much to eat!! It's a very friendly atmosphere. If you haven't been there you should really go. They serve just about anything you could think of.
FAMILY TRADITION. It wouldn't be Thanksgiving or Christmas in our family without Rocky's Baked Macaroni. We don't cook it anymore , we order it for the holidays. Our family wouldn't eat , if we cooked it. I have been going to Rocky & Carlo's since I was a small child. We LOVE the veal, brucciloni, italian salad, baked mac and of course the roast beef po boy. Mr. Rocky will even throw a BIG JUICY T-BONE in the broiler if you ask nicely. Rockys is our place to go after graduations, for birthday parties, baby showers, etc. Now my granddaughter loves it and knows Beau (the bartender) and Lil' Rocky and yells their name as soon as we get in the door. She just had her 2 y.o. birthday party at my house in Slidell and guess what we had ? 1 GIANT pan of BAKED MACARONI and 2 pans of VEAL PARMESIAN....The people slurped it down......We now live in Slidell and if I go to Chalmette, I better bring a veal cutlet plate back to my 85 y.o. dad or he will get very upset. Oh by the way, for the last 40 years, Mr. Rocky always asks how my dad is. Now where can you go and feel sooooo at home ? P.S. Thank you Mr. Rocky for doing a wonderful job putting the restaurant back in shape, it looks GREAT !!!!! Even the bathrooms......................LUV U ALL, NATURALLY NADINE REICHERT-COUTURE
Mountains of macaroni are this Chalmette tradition's trademark, and every overflowing plate is guaranteed delicious..
In Short
The view out the front door is industrial sprawl. The walls are wood paneling. The bar is kitchen counter-top acrylic. But you came to eat, so just keep moving toward the chow line. This is workingman's food the way your Cajun Italian-American momma used to cook. The po' boys define New Orleans. The Italian entrees are crafted by the hands of saints; the red sauce is divine; the fried food is fantastic. The gravy is a godsend.
Wedding. I am a Cajon Italian that grew up in a very large, close family in South Louisiana. I now live in Huntsville Alabama. Every time I go home, I go to Rocky's. Rocky's feels like home to me. Now that I'm getting married, there is no better place to hold my wedding and reception then at home. Rocky is like family to all of us. I cant wait to initiate my Alabama Boy fiance into the family. He is in for a major treat! OH THE FUN WE WILL HAVE!
I Love Chalmette!. I never thought I'd see the day that Rocky's got put on the map! I love the food there and I've been eating it since i was a kid!
the real deal. It's noisy, smoky, and unkempt, but the food is the real deal. This is New Orleans styles Italian cooking, with the authentic charm local owner/employees bring...accents and all. And, the bang for your buck here is staggering, to the point that now they have to charge a quarter for each doggie bag...rarely can you finish what's on your plate.
A lot of macaroni for a little money. I have lived in Baton Rouge all my life. My late husband introduced me to Rocky & Carlo's Restaurant about 30 years ago when he worked at Texaco. Recently, I went to Chalmette and returned to Rocky and Carlo's to eat. This place has not changed in 30 years. The food is still great and you are always served more than enough food at a very reasonable amount. I would recommend this place to anyone. It is not a fancy restaurant, but if you are looking for good food, it's the place to go.
Great Roast Beef Sandwiches. We eat at Rocky and Carlo's everytime we are in New Orleans. We love it.
