Editorial Review for Lafreniere Park – by Kevin Forest Moreau

The Scene
Lafreniere Park is Metairie's answer to Audubon and City parks, featuring lagoons, picnic grounds and all manner of peaceful scenery over 155 acres in the heart of the suburb, just off Veterans Boulevard.

The Experience
Play baseball or Frisbee golf on Lafreniere's lush, rolling grounds, or make the scene along its popular two-mile asphalt jogging track. Weekend mornings are alive with the sounds of soccer. A picnic area complete with tables and barbecue pits, a boardwalk winding through wooded areas, and the Pavilion--an all-purpose outdoor center great for weddings, parties and other events--round out the park's list of amenities. There are also covered shelters and two outdoor recreational centers.

Insider Tips

Know Before You Go

While Lafreniere isn't a nature preserve, it does offer a small wildlife habitat with lots of ducks, geese, egrets and even nutria.

Lafreniere is my favorite park in the New Orleans area. Plenty of shade and soccer fields!

Pros: 2 mile joggng trail

Cons: ½ of no shade on path
