Tips for Aamco Transmissions

March 12, 2013

Over some period of time, I noticed my transmission slipping or not engaging into gear on my '96 Mustang GT. So I had my car towed to Aamco at this location free of charge so they could take a look and see what the problem is. Unfortunately my transmission and Torque Converter was shot! Aamco did a complete rebuild and added a beefier Torque Converter for my "Spirited" driving habits. 72 hrs later, I got my car back running better than ever! The manager Zach, was knowledgeable and friendly.

I was leaving a friend’s house in Metairie and I noticed a big spot of fluid on the ground. My friend suggested that I go AAMCO on Hickory Ave., which was right down the street. I stopped over with no appointment; the manager said he could look at it now. Within fifteen minutes they explained that I must have hit something in the road because I had a transmission line leaking. They gave me a price ($27) and they fixed my car within thirty minute. Wow great service. If you are in need of a good mechanic you might want to give these guys a shot.

A friend of mine recommended AAMCO because of the quality work and the warranty. Upon entering the office it was a clean environment. I also noticed that the restroom was clean and neat. I was in need of an oil change so I scheduled an appointment. When I got there, the service guy took my information and had my car in the garage within ten minutes. The mechanic that was changing my oil alerted me of a leaking radiator hose. He said that it was a loose clamp and he tightened it. He also said that my radiator fluid was low and he filled it up. Wow, I guess that is what you get when you go to a real mechanic shop.

I have many good things to say about the AAMCO Transmission shop located on the Westbank - near (Westbank Expressway & Stump Blvd.) - I must put all the positive emphasis on the Head Certified Mechanic named "OMAR" - He really has expert knowledge of ALL types of transmissions - He rebuilt the transmission in my 2000 Mecury Sable in January 2009 - at the most reasonable price, compared to two other competitors. Since the rebuild - I've had two other occasions to bring the car back for small issues - OMAR did diagnostics, found the error code, corrected the problem & did not charge me anything !!! I just brought the car & left it overnight for him to check it out for a cold start the next morning - it's not been going into gear within 3 to 5 seconds after a cold start first thing in the mornings. - I know he'll solve this & one other problem at a very reasonable cost !!! -- more to come after I pick our car up tomorrow. -- Many thanks to OMAR for all jos well done!!!

My girlfriend needed her brakes checked out. Her Dad sent us to AAMCO to have her car checked out because they were the only mechanics around that were trustful. She made an appointment for Friday morning. I went with her to keep her company while the car was being checked out. It was funny Paige, my friend must have hit something in the road because the noise we were hearing was from a chunk of metal jammed into the front wheel area. She was so embarrassed but the AAMCO guy was so nice. He didn't even charge her for looking at the car. I need to check out the AAMCO back home.

Yesterday I went out to my car and it would not start. It would spin over but never actually start. My husband had my car towed over to AAMCO on Hickory Ave. I expected the worst but was pleasantly surprised. Apparently a sensor went bad which wouldn't let my car start. Awesome, my car was fixed within a day and for only $125. I highly recommend these guys.

I was parking at LaSalle Park yesterday when I noticed smoke coming from under my hood. I noticed across the parking lot an AAMCO repair shop. I went over to the shop and asked the manager if he could have someone look at my car. He gathered my info and had a mechanic inspect my car. The mechanic, Harold, told me that I had a busted hose. I inquired with the manager about the repair and how quick it could be done. He said with all of the parts and labor the cost would be under $200 dollars and they could have it done within a hour. Well I agreed. As Zach (the manager) promised, the car was completed within the hour and the total bill including tax was $189. This is great, someone who keeps their commitments.

I've brought two of my vehicles, my daughter's 93 Mustang and my 05 Camry, to Aamco, and both of my experiences were beyond positive for several reasons: Paul is knowledgeable, and what he doesn't know, he knows how to find out. I had follow-through from him and Bobby like I've never had follow-through from another shop. The people there treated me - and one another - with respect and courtesy. Paul took the time to teach me and my daughter what was wrong with our vehicles and what our options were; he allowed us to make all decisions rather than making repairs and then charging. The price quoted was exactly what I paid - no surprises! I have found my auto shop and don't plan to bring my vehicles anywhere else.

I bought a Groupon too but it seems like I had a complexly different experience. I made an appointment but I was a hour late. The manager Bobby took my in car immediately and I was finished within 45mins. They had free Internet access so I was able to surf the net on my pad while my car was worked on. Before I knew it my car was finished.

I also spoke to Booby about buying another oil change coupon but found out that the Groupons were never agreed to by Aamco. Bobby said that the owner of the shop agreed to honor the Groupons so as not to upset customers. He also said that the store has not received any kind of reimbursements. Even though I am not able to buy another oil change coupon I will be back. I recommend these guys.

Bought a Groupon (buy 1 oil change get 2 free) - Been here twice. Each time I've been here I've had to wait over 2 hours for an oil change. The first time I came I had to reschedule because they couldn't fit me in, even though I had an appointment. The second time I came, I waited two hours because they didn't have the correct filter or oil for my oil change, which I made an appointment for in advance and gave them my car info so they could be prepped. During this second trip, I told them I had to leave by X time (gave them an hour longer after waiting 45 mins) and they continued to lie to me about when my car would be ready. I ultimately had to reschedule a meeting because they drained my oil before they even had the supplies and I was stranded. If I didn't have a free Groupon I wouldn't use these guys for an oil change.
