Not great..
Most menu items are good, but not great. Stick with the steaks.
I've had good experiences there, Would rate them 3 stars, but past 2 experiences I'll give them 2(lucky they don't get 1).
My last visit was horrible. 8:00pm on a Saturday night and they ran out of steak. Had the grilled tunna (terrible).
If they seat you at a table that seems awkward(near the kitchen or in a positiion where you have heavy traffic), request elsewhere. You will be miserable during dinner as the waitresses place their hands next to your dinner as they "squeeze" by.
All in all, I would pick Outback over Crazy Johnnie's regardless of the bad experiences.
I also advise to drive around and find a place to park before trying to park in their so called lot.
Wonderful Memories. When my husband and I were dating we lived in Metearie ("Fat City") 13 years ago, we always ate at Crazy Johnnies. It was our very favorite place to eat. It has a romantic memory for us because we ate their together and loved it. The food was always exceptional for such a reasonable price. We have moved around to different states since then with his job, but whenever we are with a group of friends talking about our wonderful times in New Orleans, we always mention that if your ever in Metearie, you must eat at Crazy Johnnies. It was very small back then and you had to be sure to get there before the crowd. We haven't been back in such a long time, but when we get the chance we will be sure to go to Crazy Johnnies to see how wonderfully it has grown.
Great Steaks. Crayzy Johnnie's is a great place to dine. Service is great considering how busy the restaurant is and the steak is cheap and tender. This is definately a place for you to eat if you're on a budget and close to Fat City.
Fun neighborhood place that's serious about good food and better prices..
The Scene
Family-style dining with enough harmless adult diversion to still fit into Fat City. A showcase of merchandise bearing a sun-glassed cow sits near the door and sets the spot's laid-back mood. A dimly lit dining room offers little fanfare; thrill-seeking guests head to the bar for video poker and libations. The front deck fills up when the restaurant is on a wait.
The Food
Good steaks and seafood. Outrageous specials like the weeknight early bird dinner--a respectable eight-ounce filet, served with a side of garlic-buttery mashed potatoes for under $10--have made Crazy Johnnie's famous with Metairie diners. Other worthy bargains include Monday's red beans and rice, Tuesday's half-price bottled wine and, particularly if you dine with a group, the generous and always-available house salad. The stuffed mushroom caps and Crazy Johnnie's special coffee bookend meals perfectly.
Best value in the city!. AWESOME food at an incredible price. Dippin' bread or dippin' shrimp are amazing. The filet melts in your mouth. Service needs improvement. Not a fancy place, but still definitely worth a stop!
Real bargain. Steaks are very good. Atmosphere is nothing to brag about. But the price is amazingly low!!!!!!
Good steak, bad atmosphere. While the steak and the price is good, the atmosphere is no more than a smokey bar room. I have to say that the steak was very good, tender and cooked to perfection (medium rare). However the smoke can kill you and the place doesn't look very clean. Our service was also sketchy, the waitress rarely checked on us, leaving us to chase them down. But for the price and the quality of the steak, I guess you have to take the good with the bad.
Eat Great for Less. When I am on a budget but still want a good tasting steak, I always choose Crazy Johnnie's. The price is really unbeatable for the cut of meat you choose. Only thing I disliked are the televisions going in every corner. CNN was on while I ate there last and while I was trying to enjoy a great meal; all I saw was War subjects. Even though this is part of the world now; when eating I like have the ability to escape from the realm of it. So my only advice is to turn off the t.v's!
Crazy about Johnnie's. In a city with the finest eating establishments on the planet, Crazy Johnnie's fills your need for beef. You can order a steak at Ruth's Chris or Houstons or many other fine places but the $7.99 sirloin strip or $11.99 filet mignon at Crazy Johnnie's is simply the best value for the money. Don't forget to try the dipping sauce & fresh bread or salad bowl. If you want shrimp try the bar-b-que shrimp. Crazy Johnnie's cannot be beat on the quality and price.
Great Steaks.
This was our first time to Crazy Johnnie's. It took several trips around the block to finally find somewhere to park.
The steak that I had was heavy on the garlic, but since I like garlic that was fine with me. However, for someone who doesn't like garlic I could see were that might be a problem. The crazy potatoes were probably even better than the steak, and the steak was wonderful. My waitress checked to make sure the steak was done correctly, and several more times to make sure everthing was alright.
I was a little disappointed that the steak came with neither a salad nor bread.
