Porter Stevens is ideal for guys looking for the popular name brands of a larger department store without the all-out commitment to shopping: It's small, it's clearly a boys' club, and it's near an exit. A knowledgeable, eager staff is quick with discreet tips for the fashion-impaired.

Porter Stevens is shaped like an oversize walk-in closet, with the front half steeped in casual garb from the ultra-preppy (Izod Lacoste polos) to the uber-urban (Kenneth Cole) to the downright Cosby-esque (silk and linen lounge attire in unspeakably loud prints). The rear of the store is devoted to career wear and features suits, sport coats, slacks and ties by big-name designers. The shoe section is dominated by dressier selections from Kenneth Cole.
