The Scene
This spinoff of the popular Georgian Furnishing retailer in New Orleans proper offers a more contemporary but no less regal selection than its esteemed parent store. Soft-spoken salespeople greet shoppers warmly at the door, then graciously take leave, allowing the curious to explore unfettered an expansive showroom including lush, overstuffed seating, towering cherry-stained storage, faux fur and animal-print rugs, and assorted gothic accents.
The Draw
Berger Home carries traditional lines such as Lane and Highland House, but the family-owned furnishing store specializes in the unique and hard-to-find, like handmade upholstery by the Cisco Brothers of San Francisco. Ikea this ain't--massive leather sofas come with matching price tags--but frequent markdowns make for the occasional bargain on an expertly crafted piece. A selection of lamps and accessories are regularly available for less than triple digits.
