good, but just a little average..
my boyfriend and I kept walking by this cafe, so we finally caved and went in one evening. the staff was very friendly and it was free seating, so we sat in a secluded area that overlooked Chartres st (quite fun people watching). our waiter was nearly psychic as he refilled our glasses just as we needed them and came with our food right on time.
we ordered the gumbo (decent), the crawfish ettoufee (bland) and the muffaletta (good, but just boring).
not to say the food was bad, but it certainly could have been much better.
It sort of felt like a chain restaurant... like the chefs in the kitchen were uninspired and cooking because they had to.
Dog Friendly!!!. Great staff, awesome food. and this place is dog friendly! Add to the list if going to New Orleans.
Best Bloody Mary. This is one of the best Bloody Mary's I have ever had in New Orleans. Whenever I go to the French Quarter I always go here for a Bloody Mary!!!!
Worst service and food in New Orleans.
We entered and it was unclear where the waitstaff wanted us to be seated as they were understaffed. There was no service upstairs, so we were seated outside in the courtyard square by the kitchen. The waitress was watching her own two children at the table next to us and did not acknowledge our presence for over 7-8 minutes. Finally, after taking our order she repeatedly went to her children, yes, I said her children to discipline them for not sitting quietly. They were cute young boys, about 4 y.o. and 7 y.o. but they had no supervision in the courtyard, except when she stopped by to reprimand them. It was highly unprofessional and frankly disturbing. One table of customers walked out without food while we were there and another table complained loudly about the lack of service when their food was not served in a reasonable time.
The food took over 45 minutes and she never told us why there was a delay in service. The spinach artichoke dip was runny with little to no flavor. The fries were cold, too.
Typically if there is an understaffing problem, a manager would come over to apologize, bring you an appetiizer, something to notice or recognize the poor service. But we had no staff come by.
A big disappointment.
Try the duck quesadillas! Heaven!. We enjoyed the roast beef po boys, delicious with rich gravy that required many many napkins. The duck quesadillas are an unexpected pleasure - flaky, savory, fantastic. The staff are friendly, and the atmosphere is great. It's a great place to go, to get away (but not too far away) from all the activity in the quarter. A great starting place for a night of festivities!
Relaxed dining in the Quarter. Never disappointing!----Friendliest staff around!!!!!!.
My husband and usually try to avoid eating in the Quarter when we're heading out for dinner, but Chartres House has always been the exception. It's wonderful day or night, whether we want to bring our little one along, or just have a sweet, intimate dinner. The food is quite good, and always fresh, hot, and delivered to our table promptly. The location is terrific, with a wonderful ambience, whether you dine in the open air bar, the dining room, or even the courtyard! Best of all, this place has THE BEST SERVICE. The staff will bend over backward to make sure you have everything you need! Always warm, smiling, and welcoming, the folks at Chartres make you feel at home!
Chartres is our favorite place to dine in the Quarter! It'll be yours too!
Great martinis. Good food, excellent martini list. Good place to start off a night on the town. I am a local, and this is one of the only places that I really enjoy going when I go downtown.
Try the eggplant. We ordered an appetizer - eggplant slices, breaded and fried and topped with crawfish sauce- that may be the best thing I ever ate. The Taste of New Orleans (Jambalaya. Gumbo, Red Beans & Rice) was super. The andouille was a tad overdone but basically a small complaint. The service was superb.
