Metairie >Kanno California Sushi Bar
Best Sushi East of California.
The sushi is fresh every single time i visit. The sushi chef is very friendly and engaging. The entire staff is friendly and welcoming. This place got a 26 Zagat score for food (only 2 others in New Orleans got as high a mark). It also got a 12 for decor, so don't expect a Ritz Carlton ambiance.
Anyone (like Sushidoll) who writes scathing reviews behind a laptop screen must have some hidden agenda. The site administrators should remove that post as slander.
5 stars all around!!
Ok the sushi is good but the favoritism must stop!.
Take it from someone who has eaten sushi everywere.
I used to visit kanno regularly so this is not a one time experience. The sushi is good and doesn't make you sick like some places, however it's a far cry from the best as other reviews have claimed.
I always noticed how the chef/owner talked to others at the sushi bar but never really acted as if I was there. After todays experience I will never go there again. I noticed the favortism last time I visited. On the last visit my bill had been mischarged in my favor and instead of charging me 30$ they charged me 3$. As an honest person I told them about the mistake and they fixed it and were pleased with my honesty. However, on the same token as I looked around others were receiving little chocolate deserts that are free with the meal. I did not receive that and asked why. The waiter brought us out one only after we asked for it. I thought maybe it was an oversight and didn't think much more about it. A few weeks later I went back and sat at the sushi bar. After sitting down I realized I had not been greeted by anyone upon entering the restaurant. After I received my food I asked a waitress, not my waiter, for some ponzu sauce. I am not sure if this person can even speak because she did not say a word, but did bring me the sauce I asked for huffily. She then cleaned up the table and when my friend tried to see if he had any tea left she slammed it on the tray after he handed it to her. Very bad attitude and we had done nothing to deserve the rudeness. We then asked for a box and she brought it out and shoved it at me. I noticed the regulars next to me eating their little free desert. The reason I know these are regulars is the owner/chef talked to them the entire time they were there. After packing my lunch into a box I was promptly brought the check before asking for it. My friend then asked where is our chocolate desert that everyone seems to get except us. After the second time of not receiving this desert I knew it was intentionaly not given to us. Others were told thank you upon leaving and to us not a word was spoken.
It is fine they think they do not need my business since they will never again get it or my recommendation. The most disturbing part about it all was that it felt so high school as if because I was not part of the "regular" crowd I was invisible. I am sure people who know what I am talking about can attest to never wanting to feel that in the adult life let alone pay to feel that way.
I felt unwelcomed the entire time I was there.
Go to Gimchi instead, where the sushi tastes better and everyone is part of the in crowd.
Best Sushi without a doubt. You may have to drive 20 minutes to get there from New Orleans but it's well worth the trip. Sushi is excellent, probably the best I have ever had & I have had sushi in probably 150 restaurants, two being 2 Nobu locations. The flying fish is not to be missed. I have never seen it on a menu anywhere. It's soft & buttery. The calamari steak is so tender you can easily cut it with a fork. Also highly recommend is the albacore tuna, excellent.
Best sushi in the city!. Not many people know about this place, but is is wonderful! Located in Fat City near Dino's, Crazy Johnnie's, etc. Better than Shogun or any other sushi bar in the New Orleans area, and that comes from a true sushi connisseur. I have eaten sushi in Baton Rouge, Miami, Pittsburgh, Tucson, Phoenix, and this is the absolute best. "Elvis" and his wife are super-nice and make you feel at home. Seafood Dynamite, Kanno Roll, Seven-Spice Albacore Tuna, and anything with fantasy sauce is out of this world. This fish is the freshest around, bar none. I never visit New Orleans without making a stop here.
