Tips for Maison Orleans

3.0
May 06, 2008

Overrated. Considering this is the "club" level for the Ritz, we expected great things. We had previously stayed at the regular Ritz in New Orleans so we expected an amazing experience by staying at the Maison Orleans.

POSITIVES

The location is great! The Ritz also offers their own shuttle for Jazzfest - totally worth it (you don't need to be a guest). The five meal presentations were nice but not much selection for a vegetarian and really not needed since there are many amazing restaurants in the city. Complimentary beverages were probably the best part. The lemonade was great (but in a cute yet unpractical dispenser). The jar of sweets was always available and very tasty.

NEGATIVES

The room was much smaller than the room we had at the regular Ritz. Also, the bathroom was not practical for anyone shorter than 5'5". We were very disappointed with the excessive waste. It wouldn't take much for these hotels to be a little "greener"... reusing towels should at least be an option and how about some recycling bins for when you are done with your free beverages. Just because you can afford to stay at the Ritz doesn't mean you are above helping the environment.

Ultimately we had two issues while we were there... something we had purchased went missing and the heavy light fixture in the bathroom came crashing down not long after I had walked out. While they attempted to look for the purchased item and someone did clean up the glass in the room, it didn't seem like there were any procedures in place or a clear chain of command. They didn't seem to be concerned with the danger of the light shattering (nearly on a guest) or the continued issue of glass pieces in a room where people are often barefoot. While I didn't expect a grand gesture, an acknowledgment of their concern or even one of those already free bottles of champagne placed in our room would've been a nice show of hospitality for a hotel that prides itself on service.

Will we come back? Probably not.
