Really good old fashioned BBq! The ribs are done in a dry rub, they have great sweet tea... we went with a big group and everyone loved what they ordered. Good value, fast service and food. Good location, parking isn't hard to find on this side of St Charles either. Don't go if you're vegetarian, they have nothing that isn't meat. But the ambiance is fun and casual, and all the cops eat there so you know it's good.

We love Voodoo BBQ. We have never patroned the bar (yet), but when we went to NOLA in '05 (before Katrina) we really enjoyed the food. The gentleman ~ whom I assumed was the manager ~ was very cordial, and the young ladies working the counter were charming and friendly and funny. We returned a year ago, and I was jazzed to see the same guy, and the same girls, more grown up and still charming. Now I'm sure their bbq isn't the best you'll find in NOLA, but it's good enough, and the side dishes are very good, and prices affordable. The atmosphere is casual and it's easily accessible by streetcar. (Close to the Garden Dist.) If you spend time in the Garden District and get hungry, skip the outrageously expensive Commander's Palace and make Voodoo BBQ your destination.

I was on an Amtrak layover in March, and asked the ticket manager in NO to recommend a good place to eat. His suggestion was this wonderfully wild eatery. The staff was absolutely looney, and the friendliest people I have ever met. The female bartender was the quickest wited mouth I have been around. The drinks were great and the food delicious. A BBQ Brisket sandwich was just what I needed! The various sauces were special. The manager after hearing my travel plight, fixed 2 sandwiches at no cost for my later evening enjoyment. This is Southern hospitality at it's very best! I will be travelling that way again in a few months, and will once again have a layover. You can bet I'll be conjuring up some spells at Voodoo!
