The meat is fantastic and the sides are also great - not just a second thought. It is a little off the beatin' path, but well worth it. The decor isn't anything to write home about, but with food this good, we don't mind. We love this place. It is a hidden gem.
good smoked barbecue. good if you like smoked barbecue. missed out on the sausage everyone talks about, but still pretty impressive. sides are good too. worth the hike out to harahan.
This is the real deal. Slow smoked brisket, pulled pork, pork ribs, etc.............
If your looking for real slow cooked BBQ, expertly seasoned and smoked in Kentucky aged hickory until the perfect level of doneness and juiciness are achieved, this is it. I've been a Hillbilly regular since they opened the doors and I need a fix at least twice a week. The meats are so perfectly cooked --- always tender --- always juicy --- always the perfect amount of rich smoke flavor and never "over smoked." This is one place where it's not about the BBQ sauce. While they have an award winning sauce, I seldom use it. The food comes off the smoker so perfectly prepared and tasty that you don't need the sauce to embellish it.
Larry and Kelly (owners) will see that you get enough to eat at a very affordable price. I promise you, go once........you'll be a regular, too. This is not fast food BBQ. This is the real McCoy. Ribs smoked a minimum of 6 hours..........pork shoulders and briskets for up to 18 hours below 200 degrees. Absolutely the tenderest, juiciest and most flavorful BBQ I ever ate......ANYWHERE. Do yourself a favor..........if you're a real BBQ fan, don't miss it.
Editorial Review by Citysearch Editors. This popular eatery in the suburbs specializes in homecooked barbecue meats, including pork, beef and chicken; carry out available.
My Goodness. This place is unbelievable. My wife and I decided to check it out after a local magazine reviewed it. Although it is in no way convenient to us, we now routinely drive by three barbecue places to go to Hillbilly. It's a tiny little place, and its certainly not about ambience, but the food is the thing. Everything is extraordinary. The sauces are outstanding, the beans are ridiculous, the potato salad is always fresh, and the meat is tender. You will not need a knife. I just do not have the words to convey how good this is.
The best in the area.
I bit of a hike, but hands down the best in town. A family run place, where they make great ribs, and the smoked chicken salad, when available, is a real treat.
In short, a step or two above the rest in a town that sorely lacks for good BBQ
