Good spirits of the liquid and atmospheric varieties draw beer lovers and professionals to this agreeable, upscale Marigny watering hole..
The Scene
The Big Apple meets the Big Easy. The original d.b.a. was born in New York City in the early 1990s, and is still one of the most popular pubs in the famed East Village; this Faubourg Marigny outpost opened in June 2000 as a place to talk with friends over a drink. The bar attracts a cross-section of artistic Marigny types, young professionals and older bar-goers. Some dress for a night on the town, while others don the casual duds seen at most corner watering holes.
The Draw
Though beer is what d.b.a. does best, don't bother asking for a Budweiser--the bar's motto is "drink good stuff." The selection of European and other foreign potables mirrors what one would find at establishments in London, Paris or New York (go figure). The bar has also developed a reputation as an amiable "meet market."
a cool place to hang out. and try all types of beers and drinks..i used to like it a lot before it became too popular...
Drinkers with Bad Attitudes?. There's a lot to like about d.b.a. -- the muted, dark wooden decor, the extensive beer and liquor selection and its prime Frenchmen Street real estate. But be careful when you go, because late weekend nights seem to bring out some of the city's rudest patrons. Navigating through the crowd at these times can be downright impossible unless you're a contortionist with a diminished sense of personal space. General late-afternoon and early-evening "happy hour" times are much easier, friendlier and more casual, the better to enjoy the exhausting array of spirits d.b.a. has to offer.
