Runway fashions and foreign films crown downtown's most refined shopping space.. The Scene
Canal Place is more than a shopping mall; as the home of a four-screen, art-house movie theater and the Southern Repertory Theatre, the three-story complex is a downtown cultural hub. It's also connected to a ritzy Wyndham Hotel that plays host to celebrities and other upscale visitors. While the mall has premium shopping, the food options are scant. There's a buffet-style cafe loaded with regional faves and a pizza joint, but your best bet for a midday snack is a Mrs. Field's chocolate chip pecan cookie.

The Goods
Anchored by Saks Fifth Avenue, this chichi 50-tenant mall houses high-end boutiques you won't find anywhere else in the city, including BCBG, Betsey Johnson, Gucci and Brooks Brothers. Pottery Barn and gender-specific Banana Republic stores make it a local yuppie stronghold. Expect lots of white space, chrome accents and chic people dressed in black.
