One of my favorites. I almost don't want to spread the word. If I want a great meal at a good price I head to this comfortable local hangout. I would recommend it to anyone. I have a hard time passing up the steak, but I have never been disappointed in anything I have eaten here. Great atmosphere and food.

Off the beaten path restaurant at fair prices with charm.. If you're looking for a Michelin star studded affair this restaurant is not for you. Built on a renovated character house in uptown New Orleans, this restaurant delivers homestead charm with 4-star substance. More importantly, they do this at very reasonable prices. On our post Mardi Gras venture, none of the main entrees were over $24.

Their closed patio waiting area delivers a unique and relaxed experience to mingle with other patrons and enjoy a sampling or a bottle from their concise but smartly chosen wine list. Their main dinner room exudes cheerful ambiance best suited for small group of friends or maybe even the notorious double date. There are a couple of tables off to the side that offer a more intimate setting, but I wouldn't classify this establishment as a candlelight type place.

Don't expect to be called "monsoir" or "madame" from the wait staff, what they deliver is swift and concise service. We started with the fried oysters and lobster potstickers and they were a treat to get the palette going...not to mention the the southern staple cornbread obviously showcasing cornmeal beyond the standard Bulk Barn fare. My scallops were well executed though I would of preferred to see of the accompaniment of smallish gulf shrimp retrofitted with more succulent 10/15 prawns. My colleague's venison was finely tender, deliciously flavored, and well executed all around.

Overall the couple delivers a charming and cheerful dining experience with no nonsense service and finely executed dishes that will not disappoint.

great all around restaurant. lucky for us we only had to wait 1/2 hour instead of the quoted 1.5 hours. this was a great place. good cornbread, nice atmosphere, pretty reasonable prices, and very tasty food. i had the catfish with gulf shrimp and jambalaya grits - very very good.

Very Impressed!. After rave reviews from a lot of friends, I finally made my way here one night. I had the scallops, which were hands down the best scallops I've ever had. I was with a group of people and everything we had was outstanding. The desserts and appetizers were good, but the main course was absolutely the best part of the meal. It's definately worth the trip. The only negative aspect was that they did not take reservations. We ended up waiting about 45 minutres for a table at 8:30 on a week night.

Ok food, nice atmosphere. After all the hype and good reviews I read on citysearch, I expected more from this place. While the menu looked impressive, it didn't really deliver. I found the food average. The atmosphere is great though. I especially enjoyed sitting in the porch area while waiting for our table. We ordered the cheese plate and sipped on wine.....very enjoyable. I just wish the rest of the dinner would've been as good. If you're curious, give it a try, but I don't plan on returning anytime soon.

One of the Best meals I've ever had!. Found this place via citysearch and I must say that I was extremely pleased with everything.

I guess I went early enough in the evening as I was promptly seated. The not too dimly lit main room (make sure you get seated in there) was nicely decorated and I felt like I had sorta stepped back in time. The bar has an ample selection of beers, wines and hard stuff. I got the salad with beef tips and a bowl of duck/sausage soup. oh, yeah, the assortment of breads is an awesome touch. I think the menu change every 2 motnhs or so. Park across the street at the big grocery store.

Best I Tried. On a recent trip to the Big Easy, this was hands down the best place I dined at. Must tries are the oyster chowder, catfish with crawfish dynamite and sticky pudding. The complimentary cornbread was phenomenal.

The secret is out so prepare to wait about an hour no matter what time you go as they do not take reservations. Relax and have a drink in the funky, Cajun styled bar.

Like its charming cottage setting, this funky Uptown gem dishes up creative twists on homestyle favorites.. The Scene
This unassuming, informal house renovation stays true to its residential roots. The hand-painted plates hung on deep ochre walls could be the work of some hip grandmother, who also serves mason jars of water on floral-clothed tables. Charming, familiar service is a hit with a patient, mostly-local crowd.

The Food
Chef and owner Dick Benz recaptures the hearty, homestyle foods of your idealized youth, usually paired with a subtle contemporary twist. He reinterprets classic butter-rich barbecued shrimp with simultaneous nods toward Asia and Cajun country; fiery chili-garlic paste provides heat while, a rustic tasso flan offers a creamy, savory coolness. The butter-soft braised lamb shank--served with earthy cassoulet--does flavorful justice to the oft-bungled country-French genre dish. The emphasis here is unfussy Louisiana food with local ingredients: winter beet and Louisiana citrus salad is a standout. End your meal with a fresh-fried cake donut topped with maple-stewed apples.

Fabulous!. I had passed by the restaurant so many times on the way to the grocery store but had never stopped to eat. Thank God I did. It is a hidden gem in a city full of overrated popular restaurants. I was with a group of 4 people and everybody's meal was wonderful. One of the appetizers was so good my husband asked if he could have it as meal. Service was fine and the atmosphere was casual but the food is outstanding!
