Great Hotel BUT.... It's a great hotel but if any of you are looking to save some $$ then book it at referer.us/8/GoodHotelDeals They usually have some pretty good deals on there!
Service at the W. I was a delegate at the NEA Convention from June 30-July 7 . I stayed at the W for 7 nights for a so called convention rate of $196.00 per night;OUTRAGEOUS. No DVD player in room as advertised as standard amenities, there was a remote, but no player. I requested a coffee maker, and was informed they did not provide coffee makers in their rooms, because complimentary coffee was served on the 2nd floor. The hotel is in a good location, very noisy and crowded because of Essence Music Festival. On July 1 paid $1,532.72 for my full stay. On checkout July 7, was astonished to learn they wanted to charge an additional $132.08. On the first night they charged a rate of $241.56, which was the incorrect rate. They could not give any plausible explanation, the young lady who checked me out said she was new. The female manager on duty could not explain the charge either. She eventually credited my account back $112.00, I will check my bank account daily. She did not offer an apology for their mistake. Make sure you check your bill daily if you plan on staying at the W.
Very sleek. Stayed here with a group of girls for a bachelorette party and loved it. Sleek, neat and a perfect spot to hang out.
Atrocious service. The staff was incompetent, slow, and rude. They forgot to clean the room twice in our week-long stay. When they did clean the room, they forgot something. One day no toilet paper, another day no washcloths. When we called for replacements they said "sure" and then never came with them. We checked in at midnight after a long day of travel. They gave us a nice room, but the heater was broken. Their solution was to keep us in the freezing room for 45 mins while we waited for maintenance. The guy could not fix it, so they told HIM to move us to another much smaller, cruddier room. We had to ask to merely be given the same type of room we were originally booked. This place is just awful. Stay here only if you are more interested in looking cool than in receiving competent service.
Happy Homecoming. I lived in N.O. for 6 years, went back this Christmas with my fiance and 16-month-old son. When I booked the reservation I mentioned that I would be traveling with a toddler, and lo and behold there was a crib in the room when we walked in. I brought Baby Einstein videos with me, as Expedia said every room had a VCR. When mine had a DVD player instead, they happily had an engineer switch it out. Service: impeccable. Every request was satisfied, and a phone call followed to make sure of it. Only suggestion: a little more lighting in the rooms, please! (The rooms are definitely designed for more baby-making.) Let's find some dimmers, guys.
Self-conscious chic for the see-and-be-seen set..
The Scene
This hotel is giddy with ironic design twists, from the waiting bed in the lobby to the mega-size chairs in the sarcastically stocked library-as if any of the jet setters who check in here would have the time (or the inclination) to enjoy the stacks of board games, let alone lounge in the tranquil bamboo garden.
The Details
Each of the 423 rooms boasts minimalist design and the famously comfortable "W beds," custom-made with fluffy down. While the cool factor is at a maximum, elbow room is at a minimum. Rooms, however, do have data ports and other high-tech gadgets. The fourth-floor outdoor pool shares space with a fitness center and laptop-equipped cabañas. The modern attitude continues in Zoë and goes into overdrive in the bar, Whiskey Blue. There's a 24-hour concierge and room service.
Love the W beds. As with all W Hotels the beds are heavenly, comfortable and the best in the business. The staff are friendly and helpful, once they know your name they remember it and call you by your name. It's close to the Quarter and the convention center so you can avoid the noise at night. If you're looking for a "traditional" NOLA experience then you might want to look elsewhere. The W is clean with bright colors and very hip and stylish. If you want a more antique and traditional NOLA experience then don't stay here but if you want a hip and stylish experience then this is the place for you. The two bars are relaxing and a nice place to unwind from the day/night. If you go Zoe's try the grilled endive and roasted roma tomato salad, it's the best I've ever had.
Best Beds in the city. GREAT beds. You cannot imagine these things. Trust me, they make it worth the stay. Very good location and value. New Age decor, trendy and cool. I HIGHLY recommend.
W is for What a Bed. This hotel is cool and funky. The bed has to be one of the most comfortable ever. The room was cute and ultra-modern. The bar in the lobby is a major gathering place for those who want to see and be seen. The staff was wonderful and very helpful. The restaurant was only so-so. All in all I enjoyed my stay.
Stylish and relatively reasonable. This W location is much cheaper than the one in the French Quarter, and it's just a short walk away. The lobby bar is nice, as are the lounge areas in the lobby. The rooms are full of W-touches, such as red & black décor, leather furniture and a gumball machine.
