Love ctr but not enough childcare staff during busy mornings.
I love the gym. Plenty of machines, aerobics classes, monitors around the facility with a slideshow of info to keep all informed, and posted senior activities(I am not a senior by the way). The staff is friendly also.
MY ONLY REQUEST IS THAT THE HARAHAN LOCATION ADD MORE STAFF TO THEIR CHILDCARE CENTER DURING THEIR BUSY TIMES OF THE DAY. My experience during the morning is not that there are too many kids/babies but that there isn't enough staff. I have been there in the evening and that time there were more staff but that was one time and I don't know how many staff there are any other evenings. During the morning hours there is at least two ladies that are there. One older lady who always checks the kids in which takes away from the care of the babies when there are many. The babies are usually crying and she can't comfort all of them. Then there are also walking babies who need attention also like mine sometimes I walk in and see the look on the face wanting to cry while watching all the babies cry. The other lady is with the older kids in the back of the room sometimes with a look as if you brought your child to the wrong place. I don't know maybe that is her natural look. When we 1st starting using the childcare there were more staff. As I think back, I believe because it was during the holidays while their holiday camp was in session. I have been to the Heritage location and loved the attention given by the staff to the kids. During my visits there has been two staff members but there has never been more than 6 kids at a time. From seeing the sign in list I know there has been more kids/babies that have been there and I usually go anytime before 12pm. More morning aerobic classes would be nice at this location though. The fitness center really is a great family center it can just use more staff during their childcare peek hours. The few staff members that are there do their best but they have admitted help is needed. Thank you all for caring for all the kids.
wide range of activities offered. I recommend Elmwood for families with children. They have both outdoor and indoor swimming pools and lap pools, and also have changed over to saltwater which is much better for your health than chlorinated pools. I feel that they are always trying to improve the facilities, whether it's replastering the pool or painting the locker room. I find that hey are ever vigilant about cleanliness, too. I never see dirty towel or trash leftover in the locker rooms, for instance. And I like that they employ people with disabilities, though I have not seen as much of them of late. The front desk staff are also very courteous.
More a resort than a gym, the largest fitness center in the city has a beauty salon and sports bar..
The Scene
Take your pick from a plethora of stationary bikes, rowing machines, elliptical crosstrainers and cross-robics machines. Or try your strength at a multitude of weight-lifting machines and free weights. Along with the typical young-and-buff fitness folks, Elmwood also caters to families, offering a myriad of classes for kids.
The Draw
With about 75 different classes per week, ranging from beginner to advanced levels, you can choose from basic aerobics or your choice of nouveaux-fitness trends such as tai chi, cardio kickboxing and Spinning. All classes are complimentary for members. The two full-size aerobics studios have spring-mounted floors to reduce harsh impact. The center also offers instruction in tae kwon do and hapkido for adults and children as young as four. Classes are offered every weeknight and on Saturday mornings.
