Editorial Review for The Ritz-Carlton, New Orleans – by Kevin Forest Moreau
The Scene
Housed in the former Maison Blanche and Kress buildings--longtime landmarks of bustling Canal Street--the Ritz-Carlton New Orleans exudes an air of casual elegance. From the moment you pull into the cave-like entryway, you're enveloped in a separate world whose bywords are comfort, sophistication and simplicity. Appointed to resemble a Garden District mansion, the Ritz is decorated in a mix of Beaux Arts and art-nouveau styles.
The Details
Spend the night in one of 452 tastefully decorated rooms (including 37 suites), featuring crystal chandeliers and antique furniture, in 37 different styles. The spacious, columned third-floor lobby looks onto an enclosed courtyard, and is surrounded by tempting destinations: the Library Lounge, a muted parlor with a walk-in humidor; Victor's, a lavish restaurant focusing on creative Creole cuisine; and the French Quarter Bar, which features live lounge music.

Nice hotel, prefer over the pricier Maison Orleans. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Hotel provides their own shuttle for JazzFest (it costs but is worth it and you don't need to be a hotel guest).
Pros: Location, JazzFest shuttle, friendly staff
Cons: no pool

I LOVE THIS HOTEL! Yes, it is expensive...but a treat. The layout is strange, but this is possibly due to the previous occupant (a department store). It didn't detract. Instead it made for some interesting exploring. This hotel is so comfortable and beautiful. If possible, try the spa. It is so, so nice.
Pros: Luxury, Great Staff, Location
Cons: Expensive
