Never Again!. Where to start......first the staff was snotty......then the food was over priced and to be honest quite awful. We will never go back again.
An Excellent meal and service. Perfect! Wonderful food and attention to detail! We sat in the bar at a small table next to the window (away from the cold air conditioning) and the service was perfect. After our meal at the Upperline, it was our second best meal in New Orleans.
this was our first visit back to NOLA in way too long, friends of ours that live in the Garden District took us there as it's one of their faves. Now I know why- everything, including the french fries (?) was great!
Pork Belly? OMG- to die for, and we're from NC, hog capital of the world. Desserts were fabulous, the waiter was great. I love this city and all it's food. Herbsaint did not disappoint!!
My, Oh My, Mama!!. I have just returned to Herbsaint with my discerning tastebuds prepared for the VERY BEST in New Orleans fine dining, only to discover the cuisine even BETTER than what I remembered from previous visits! The appetisers (chef-made pork terrine with homemade bread-and-butter pickle relish, crisply-battered frog legs, and crunchy, warm, homemade bread and butter) were fantastically tasty; the salad fresh, cold and crisp with perfect dressing; and the entrees were so good that we had to inobtrusively sample from one another's plates! The veal was so tender, it melted in our mouths; I've never had better soft-shelled crab; and the fish and the shrimp were divine! The service was friendly, informative, and lovely. The wine steward came to our table to recommend a wonderful blush wine to start and an excellent red which complimented the food indescribably well! The desserts were incomparable to any other (coconut cream pie that tasted like those made by my Great Aunt Lilly when we visited her in Gulfport when I was a child, Brown Butter Banana Tart that almost melted our souls, and something deep chocolate that just sort of dissolved from the spoon and seeped into all of the "places that taste" in our mouths!) I wanted to spend the night and do it all over again in the morning, but that will have to wait until the next time I toddle in from Houston (and THAT trip will be SOONER than I had planned before this most recent Herbsaint visit!) This restaurant is perfect in atmosphere, and it is easily-located----700 block of St. Charles Avenue---and I highly recommend (and often DO recommend) this wonderful restaurant!
Hip bistro balances French fancies with Southern soul food.. Half a block from historic Gallier Hall, Herbsaint is a gathering place for hip locals, savvy businesspeople, and in-the-know tourists. Pale colors, minimalist decor and funky lighting create a casual but cool atmosphere. Large windows and a few outside tables make for good people-watching. The menu features a French-American influence combined with southern culinary traditions. Small plates such as shrimp and grits with tasso okra, fried frog legs, or a house-made charcuterie are suitable for sharing. Lamb shoulder with baked white beans, Kurabuta pork belly with black-eyed peas and collard greens, and muscovy duck leg confit with dirty rice highlight the melding of styles. An extensive wine list and a dessert menu featuring twists on old favorites round out the meal.
Where is Susan?. The food was pretty good but hey the prices are alittle better than the food. My boyfriend ordered the frog legs (greasy) and the shrimp & grits (very good) he also had a bowl of tomato and shrimp bisque, (not that warm and fishy). I ordered the ribs (very good alittle salty) and I had the Herbsaint salad... (good needed a surprise). We had the coconut cream pie, oh my God let me die tomorrow it was "all that". we had wine, needed a update on the wine list and some surprise cocktails, the bartender was warm and friendly, the waiter had english and spanish as a second language... the bar smelled of smoke (Susan make the restaurant non-smoking please). Always a fave needs alittle more attention to details.
Needs to get over itself!.
First off, this is a VERY expensive restaurant. There is no real reception area, so when you walk in you are IN the restaurant. My dad and my husband were parking the car, and the hostess made us stand there until they came in, as the whole restaurant is staring at you. That is, until we demanded that we be seated. It was ridiculous.
Then, my mom ordered the salmon, but asked that it be "well-done", as she just doesn't like it medium rare. We were told the chef REFUSED to cook it any other way than it was offered. What kind of crap is that??? What if she had an allergy to one of the ingredients...would he have accomodated her?
All the staff just need to get over themselves. They all seemed snotty. We have too many good restaurants here for that kind of attitude. I will say, however, if you are going to go, absolutely get their signature cocktail, the Herbsaint champagne cocktail, because it is truly divine! Maybe I'll get one in a to-go cup next time I pass by, because I wouldn't go in that restaurant again for any longer than that.

Our daughter was married in our beloved New Orleans. (We live in Denver, but she graduated from Tulane and lived there for 2 years after. She married on May 28, 2005, relocating the next week to grad school in NC, thus avoiding the heartache of Katrina.
We had our rehearsal dinner in HerbSaint May 27, 2005 and guests are still raving about all the wonderful food and service. THANK YOU. Located in the Warehouse District, it is easy to drive by without noticing. But once you have been, you won't forget. We can't wait to get back in the Spring of 2006 to rejoice and celebrate our daughter's anniversary. THERE IS NO PLACE LIKE NEW ORLEANS. Our hearts and prayers are with all those determined to bring life back to our MOST FAVORITE city in the USA!
yummy. We had a delicious meal and lovely evening at Herbsaint (with the possible exception of our snooty waiter). The food was outstanding (try the duck) and the drinks strong and tasty. We still tell people at home about it. Make sure to make a reservation!
