Editorial Review for Algiers Point – by Citysearch Staff
The Background
Established in 1719, Algiers Point is the second oldest neighborhood in New Orleans. Directly across the river from the French Quarter (N.O.'s oldest nabe), the serene Point provides a best view of the New Orleans skyline.
The View
A bed-and-breakfast paradise, this quaint community is an escape for tourists and locals looking for proximity to the hustle and bustle of Bourbon Street, while enjoying peace, quiet and southern comforts at their hotels, many of which are housed in statuesque Victorian homes, attractions in themselves. Three parks, a ferry--with service from the French Quarter to the Point--and dozens of local businesses round-out the quaint charm. If the tourist in you surfaces, check out Blaine Kern's Mardi Gras World, where parade floats come to life.
