Editorial Review for Whiskey Blue – by Jill Gottesman

In Short
This dimly lit space, with soft blue hues radiating from the back bar, is the brainchild of high-end lounge impresario Rande Gerber (Skybar, Whiskey Park). Young CBD professionals and 40-something guests of the W huddle around unusually short tables on low-slung leather stools. The walls are adorned with oversized black-and-white photos of jazz legends like Thelonious Monk and Miles Davis. A queen-sized bed sits in the center of the bar.

I stopped in after wondering for some time about the place. It was empty but for a hotel guest, and my girlfriend and I still had to wait for petulant attention from the bartender. We both ordered featured drinks from the drinks menu provided, and the bartender needed the menu to then make the drinks. The drinks were terrible. My "Perfect" margarita was unbalanced, and without sugar or salt. My gal had a Grapefruit Basil Martini that had little basil, and less elegance in its making. I have been to the land of thumping music, low tables and couches, and beds in the middle of the lounge, where 14 dollar cocktails make sense and the vibe is great. This isn't that land. If you wish to hang out in a corporate estimation of a New York city lounge, go, enjoy. If you want a New Orleans experience or a decent drink, give it a miss.

Pros: Lighting

Cons: Yuppie Stench

This is definitely the place to go and chill out w/ some killer martinis. The waitresses are all gorgeous & their outfits are hot! You can call ahead and reserve a table free of charge w/out a required bottle purchase. I love to take visiting friends/family here- they all love it!

Pros: Great Drinks, Fabulous Atmosphere

Cons: Pricey
