Bound by grassy levees and miles of water, the lakefront swaddles city slickers in nature..
The Scene
It's safe to say that this place is a favorite of most locals. The expanse of levees and grass that hugs Lake Pontchartrain for about six miles from West End past the University of New Orleans is especially packed on weekends and holidays. The crowds include families, amateur fishers, picnicking couples, students between classes and healthy types, all the time; cruisers and the too-cool set on weekends.
Features
Open space is dotted with playgrounds, park benches and concession areas; cyclists, runners and skaters cruise along the path adjacent to the lake; even dogs are allowed to run free. The views are lovely, with sailboats passing and fishermen along the sea wall.
