Mardi Gras up close and personal, without the wear and tear on your feet. – The Scene
Let's face it, Mardi Gras is fun and all, but there are times you can do without the many hassles that come with it: Jostling with your fellow reveler for throws, running down the street after the float your third-cousin-twice-removed rides on, cooling your heels between those interminable stretches between floats-you know the drill. Although some purists may scoff, grandstands offer a viable alternative. Much like bleachers, the grandstands give perfect sight of the floats without the worry of being tossed about with the masses on the sidewalk.
For a price, you can feel like one of the elite, rubbing elbows with business bigwigs and enjoying a comfort level significantly higher than the average Carnival celebrant. The best part? You don't have to be one of the beautiful people--all you need is the scratch for a ticket (admission is by ticket only). Seating is available at Lee Circle, Gallier Hall, Lafayette Square, the Federal Reserve and 600 St. Charles Ave.
