Considered a boondoggle during its construction, this architectural wonder anchors downtown and put N.O. on the map..
Overview
Besides being the home of the New Orleans Saints, the Tulane Green Wave and the legendary "dome foam," the Louisiana Superdome is one of New Orleans' architectural marvels. Proposed in the late '60s and early '70s to attract large events to the city, the Superdome has evolved into a structure synonymous with New Orleans herself: unique, grand and perfect for parties as extravagant as the Super Bowl, the annual college football Sugar Bowl and huge music acts, like the Rolling Stones and U2.
The Experience
The world's largest enclosed stadium--the spaceship-like dome which got a facelift following Hurricane Katrina in 2005--seats more than 70,000 and is located next to the New Orleans Centre. Many folks only make the pilgrimage to the Dome for sporting events or public expos, but the facility also hosts tours of its press boxes, box suites and the main arena so you can see how the other half lives.
Superdome rocks.
I have been to many...many...many events at the Dome and think its great....
Concert sound is impressive considering the size and games are great for gettin the beers and back to your seats quick....
the Superdome is ok. I was here in 2000 for an Eagles-Saints NFL game. the stadium was ok. it's a dome so you don't expect much. astroturf field etc...overall not much to write home about.
Not bad for a dome. The Superdome is OK, but you can't say a whole lot more. Indoor stadiums rub me the wrong way generally -- and the Superdome is no different. But, that being said, the Superdome is pretty nice -- seats are comfortable and there are plenty of beer stands. The location is perfect -- especially for tourists -- being just a few blocks from the French Quarter and all the Canal Street hotels.
